Double-Stranded DNA (dsDNA) Antibodies, IgG

360.00 MDL

We remind you that independent interpretation of the results is unacceptable, the information provided below is for reference purposes only.

Anti-double-stranded DNA (anti-dsDNA) antibodies are autoantibodies directed against the body's own DNA and belong to the category of autoantibodies directed against nuclear antigens. Anti-dsDNA antibodies, particularly those of the IgG class, have important clinical relevance in the evaluation of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and are among the immunological markers used in the classification criteria for this disease.

Determination of anti-dsDNA IgG is used in the evaluation of patients with suspected SLE, particularly in the context of a positive ANA result and suggestive clinical manifestations. In patients with established SLE, anti-dsDNA concentrations may vary depending on disease activity and, in some patients, may correlate with disease course, particularly in forms associated with renal involvement. However, this correlation is not consistent in all patients.

The test result should be interpreted in the context of the clinical picture and together with the results of other immunological and laboratory investigations. Anti-dsDNA testing may also contribute to the assessment of the risk or activity of renal involvement in SLE, together with other clinical and paraclinical data.

Detectable levels of anti-dsDNA IgG antibodies may be identified before the onset of clinical manifestations of SLE and, in some cases, may precede the clinical diagnosis of the disease by at least two years.

Indications

  • suspected systemic lupus erythematosus, particularly in the context of a positive ANA result and suggestive clinical manifestations;
  • immunological evaluation of patients with SLE;
  • monitoring of disease progression when anti-dsDNA levels have previously been shown to correlate with disease activity in the individual patient;
  • assessment of the risk or activity of renal involvement in SLE, together with other clinical and laboratory investigations.

Procedure

A venous blood sample is collected for the test. The sample is analyzed to determine IgG antibodies to double-stranded DNA according to the method used by the laboratory.

IMPORTANT!

It is crucial to remember that the information provided in this section is not intended for self-diagnosis or self-treatment. If you experience any discomfort or exacerbation of a condition, it is essential to consult a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and treatment. Only a qualified specialist can provide an accurate diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatment. To ensure the most accurate and consistent evaluation of test results, it is recommended to have the tests performed at the same laboratory. This is because different laboratories may use varying methods and units of measurement for similar tests.
